WHAT'S EXPECTED
We hold auditions for new students and new students are always being observed. We don’t only rely on auditions, but we believe students are auditioning every day! Teachers take into account their attendance, their commitment to practicing, their respect for other students and teachers, and their overall level of technique. There will be a mandatory dance intensive week in the summer (usually July) for all competitive students.

In addition to our Competition weekend, students on our Dance Company will be required to perform in at least 1 of our studio productions as part of our Dance Ensemble and our studio-wide Year-End Showcase. For the Spring, our musical is Moana Jr.

Even if performers are opting to not perform in a particular production for any reason, they are still expected/required to attend our weekly Dance Company Classes, learn the choreography, and have good attendance in their dance classes.

We also often get asked to perform at outside events. Depending on material and the type of event, we may ask if our Company members are available to participate. These types of requests are optional but also are a ton of fun and we encourage everyone to make a great effort to attend these.

ATTENDANCE: Dance Company members are expected to attend all scheduled weekly classes for the entire season (September - June) and Festival/Competition activities the weekend of the Competition as well as the studio events listed above. We will allow up to 3 excused absences per season outside of your written conflict sheet with reasonable notice. There will be no conflicts allowed on the 2 weeks leading up to the Festival/Competition weekend!

Dance Company members are required to have regular good attendance in our Classes/programs. There is a minimum of 2 additional class/program for all of our Dance Company Members. At least 1 of these classes must be a technique class. Class suggestions will be given to each Company member.

Dancers competing for Born To Perform Studio must compete exclusively for our team. As you can imagine, competing for more than one studio would be a conflict of interest and cause considerable scheduling complications. All competitions and studio productions are mandatory unless stated otherwise.
We realize that dancers have performance opportunities outside Born To Perform Studio. Please check with Melanie or Brent prior to committing to performances outside of Born To Perform Studio to ensure there is no conflict. All outside performances must be approved by the choreographer/instructor of the dance.

We understand that those who participate in our Musical Theatre Competition Teams and Dance Company are extremely talented and, therefore, have a great chance at being cast in an outside Musical that may conflict with Competition Team, events, etc. Treat acceptance into our Teams and Company as if you are cast in a Musical Production/Company! When auditioning for outside productions, students are expected to place our weekly Competition Team/Dance Company class and minimum required classes as a conflict for outside rehearsals.
**TIP: You are allowed 3 absences per semester. If you wish to participate in an outside show, you may do so as long as you check that there are no conflicts with performances and include Team/Company rehearsals as your conflict for an outside production and use your excused absences for your outside tech-week and shows. No conflicts are allowed the 2 weeks leading up to Festival/Competition weekend.**
