A place to practice leadership
Our Theatre Leader program is growing into the Student Leadership Institute. Students learn to show up prepared, welcome others, respond to feedback, and help a rehearsal or event run well. Middle school students and older are welcome to apply, including returning Theatre Leaders.
3 TIERS. A CLEAR NEXT STEP.
1. Studio Ambassador · 30 hours annually
Build dependable habits, welcome others, and support classes, events, and the studio community through supervised practicum assignments.
2. Production Associate · 60 hours annually
Develop skills in rehearsal support, backstage organization, and production teamwork. Includes an approved Production Practicum.
3. Creative Fellow · 70 hours annually
Take on greater responsibility in creative support and mentorship, and complete an approved capstone project. Creative Fellows are eligible to pitch student-led productions to BTP staff. Every production requires staff approval, mentorship, and a workable plan.
How students grow
Monthly Leadership Labs introduce skills students can practice in supervised assignments. Staff mentors provide feedback. Students document their experience in a Leadership Passport, work toward benchmarks, reflect on what they learn, and meet with staff for review.
Placement and advancement depend on demonstrated readiness. Completing hours is one part of the process; it does not automatically move a student to the next tier. Returning leaders’ experience helps staff determine their starting tier and goals.
Commitment and tuition
Annual tuition: $675. Includes monthly labs, mentorship, practicum coordination, the Leadership Passport, feedback, and reviews. Supervised assignments are scheduled around students’ own training.
The free Summer Theatre Leader Practicum remains a separate opportunity.
Apply to the Institute
Tell us about your interests, experience, and availability. Students should answer the leadership questions in their own words, with a parent or guardian reviewing the application. BTP staff will review applications and contact families about next steps. Applying does not enroll a student or collect tuition.
